FAQ

How do I book a session?

It’s really easy to book a session with me! Just send me an email through the contact tab, and we will get you set up! A session retainer is required to hold your date.  You do not need to decide on a package until after you view your photos.  A la carte options are always available, and there is no purchase minimum.  Purchase only what you love!

Why book with a professional portrait studio vs. the gal down the street with a nice camera?

As an experienced professional photographer, I understand how easy it is to find a cheap photographer who can throw you a CD with 100 images that you like, but don’t love, and honestly will probably never print.  The CD will end up in the bottom of a drawer in a dresser that is completely forgotten about.  I know this, because I personally am guilty of doing the exact same thing.

It wasn’t until I became both a mother AND a photographer that I realized the importance of tangible products like framed prints, albums, and canvas.  I had spent literally thousands of dollars on “digital files” that were used on Facebook for a couple months and then forgotten about forever. What I love the most about my portrait studio is that your portrait experience with my studio will be person, professional, and catered to fit YOUR every need and desire.    I want you to truly be in the moment. I want to plan with you how I can make your photography session one that you can’t wait to decorate your home with, print in announcements or greeting cards, give as gifts to parents, etc.  I want to show you your photos, in print, and see how beautiful that new life you created is, so that you can hold that photo and feel your love burst all over again.  I would love to come to your home and help you design art for your empty walls and be a part of making your house feel like YOUR home.  This is why my client’s book with my portrait studio vs. a shoot and burn photographer.

From the technical aspect, there is also an extensive amount of work, training, technical skill, and editing software skill that goes into each photography session. The elements of lighting, posing, color and more are all huge factors to take into consideration when you’re shopping to make an investment in family and newborn portraiture. A professional photographer will combine these elements to create treasured works of art. Aside from using professional grade photo equipment such as a DSLR camera and the best photo software available, a professional photographer is experienced at handling newborn babies and young children in a way that is safe, playful, and will create beautiful images for your family to enjoy for years and years. There is a lot to consider when it comes to creating beautiful timeless photos, but a professional will patiently work with your family to make everyone look their very best. My experience and training has given me the ability and expertise to make sure that I am capturing your family and newborn’s best features, and pose them in comfortable & organic-looking positions.

When you hire an experienced newborn photographer, you know you’re getting someone who understands the unique needs of your little one. A newborn photographer has the knowledge and experience to create customized works of art, rather than generic every-day poses. I take the time to talk with you before your session to understand all I can about your tastes, style, and what features you’d like me to capture during your session. You will find that many newborn photographers have their own unique style. My style is simple and organic. View my newborn gallery for an idea of my style. It is my belief that newborns photograph best in their natural state, using window light and only a few simple poses. If you love my style, and value quality portraits as well as professional prints, albums, etc. contact me here to schedule a session.

Where are you located?

My newborn studio is located in Batavia, IL.  35 miles west of downtown Chicago, IL in the Fox River valley along with St Charles and Geneva.

How far ahead should I book?

I typically book 3-6 months ahead, and even sooner during the fall season. If you are currently pregnant, I highly recommend  booking as early as possible. I do maternity sessions between 30-36 weeks of pregnancy, and newborn sessions are photographed (ideally) within the first two weeks after birth.

Does the Creative fee include any digitals or products?

The creative fee does not include any products. The session retainer covers Patricia’s time and talent for your personalized photography session,  hand edited post-processing of your gallery of final images, and your choice of a 1:1 reveal appointment at my studio where you are able to experience your images for the first time and go over the perfect products that fit your needs and style, or an on-line gallery.

Do you offer Payment Plans?

I offer payment plans. I understand that photography is an investment, and I want to make sure that I can cater photography needs easily. I also do offer a loyalty incentives for my returning clients. Please ask for details.

How long does a session last?

Family and child portrait sessions last about 45 minutes, while studio newborn sessions last 2-3 hours.

How many photos do we get in a session?

You will be presented with at least 25 hand edited, beautiful images in your gallery. The images that are presented to you are the images that have met my standards in the quality of images. I try not to overwhelm with numerous photos of the same pose, etc. and rather select the best image from each set. The images you are presented with will already be fully edited with my signature editing style.
